FanDuel MLB: Sunday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Sunday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Seth Lugo, NYM at ATL ($6,800): With three arms topping $10,000 and three more topping $9K, Sunday's slate doesn't appear to be one where bargain shopping on the bump is wise, but if that's your preferred strategy it makes sense to go with a hot pitcher facing a team that's struggled all season long offensively. Lugo has won three straight starts, going an inning longer in each consecutive outing, while the Braves had dropped four straight entering Saturday. The Braves as a team have a .299 wOBP against righties, with only Freddie Freeman having a number above .330 amongst their regulars.

Catcher

Juan Centeno, MIN vs. CLE ($2,400): The Twins played extra innings Saturday, using two catchers in the process. Centeno seems like the starter by default, has four hits in his last 14 at-bats, and can be thrown into your lineup at minimal price (albeit with similarly minimal reward potential).

First Base

Tyler Austin, NYY vs. TAM ($2,500): Likely batting eighth while playing a premium position, Austin is nothing more than a tournament gamble due to his power. He had a modest five-game hit streak prior to his last two games, twice going deep. He's also fanned four times in his last five at-bats however, showing how low his floor can be, but he carries a .239 ISO into a matchup with Matt Andriese, who has allowed 14 runs and 19 hits in his last two starts while lasting just nine innings.

Second Base

Dustin Pedroia, BOS at TOR ($3,100): Pedroia is simply on fire. He slashed .406/.440/.475 in August and has eight hits and seven RBI in his last four games. With Clay Buchholz throwing for the Red Sox, the offense will need to be at their best and produce against Aaron Sanchez, who has allowed just three runs over his last 13 innings.

Third Base

Kyle Seager, SEA at OAK($3,600): Seager is modestly priced at his position and carries a team-high .406 wOBP against righties into a matchup with rookie Raul Alcantara, who allowed five runs and five hits in three innings in his first career start. Seager has been swinging well of late, hitting safely in nine of his last 10 games while launching three home runs in his last five.

Shortstop

Jose Peraza, CIN at PIT ($2,800): Peraza is 11-of-28 (.393) in the month of September, striking out only three times. He's hitting atop a powerful offense that faces Ryan Vogelsong, who has allowed 10 runs in his last two starts while having not lasted more than six innings in seven straight starts since returning to the rotation.

Outfield

Jayson Werth, WAS vs. PHI ($3,800): The price is a bit steep but Werth has been a near-automatic plug and play against lefties this season. He has a .451 wOBP and .300 ISO against southpaws this year, having hit eight home runs in 110 at-bats (compared to 12 homers in 353 at-bats against righties.) After resting Saturday, Werth is a lock to suit up Sunday afternoon against Adam Morgan, who has surrendered a .953 OPS to righties thus far.

Curtis Granderson, NYM at ATL ($3,700): Granderson is white hot, having homered in four straight games while providing five hits, 10 RBI, and six runs scored in his last five games. Granderson also owns a steady .339 wOBP and .240 ISO against righties in advance of a matchup with Williams Perez, who has allowed 28 hits and four long balls in 23.1 innings against lefties.

Carlos Gomez, TEX at LAA ($2,500): Gomez had two home runs Saturday, giving him 11 hits in his last 11 games. He'll face the always combustible Jered Weaver, who allowed five runs in four innings in his last start and has served up 10 home runs in his last six starts.
