Nieto signed a minor league deal with the Marlins on Monday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
ANALYSIS
Nieto spent all of 2014 in the majors as Chicago's backup catcher, but was then relegated to Double-A for the entirety of 2015. He struggled mightily in the minors this season, slashing .207/.344/.316 and 77 strikeouts in 81 games, so he appears unlikely to serve as anything more than organizational depth with Miami.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2016
2015
The White Sox held Nieto on the 25-man roster all 2014, but he spent all 2015 at Double-A. He posted a .344 OBP in limited duty, but his .207 average was a bit of a downer after he had hit well over his last seven seasons. He is still seen as a strong defender, so there may yet be a chance for him in the organization. But that chance will not come in 2016.
The White Sox selected Nieto in the 2014 Rule 5 draft because they liked his offensive upside. He had not played above High-A before the season, but the Sox kept him on the active roster for the entire 2014 campaign so they would not have to ship him back to the Nats. His swing is still very much a work in progress, and he has a hard time putting the ball in play. Nieto could benefit from a bit more time in the minors, and he may end up in Triple-A to start the 2015 season since he is no longer under the Rule 5 limitations.
