ANALYSIS
Achter will become just the second active coach in the Mid-American Conference with MLB playing experience after 45 appearances across three seasons with the Twins and Angels. The 29-year-old spent all of the 2017 campaign in the minors, logging 28.2 innings for Double-A Erie in the Tigers organization before moving on to the independent Atlantic League.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2016
2015
Achter had some success at Triple-A last season with a 2.63 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 48 innings, but he struggled in the majors with the Twins to the tune of a 6.75 ERA in 11 appearances. He was claimed off waivers by the Phillies this offseason, and then designated for assignment. Achter was then claimed by the Angels and outrighted, so it is possible he spends most, or all of 2016 at Triple-A. If he does pitch his way back to the majors, he'll likely be used in lower-leverage situations.
Achter is a late bloomer as the former 46th-round draft pick carved out a relief role in the minors and continued to be productive at each level. He had a 2.38 ERA and 8.6 K/9 at Triple-A which resulted in a September callup to the Twins. He struck out just five batters in 11 innings in the majors, but otherwise held his own with a 3.27 ERA. While he doesn't have an overpowering fastball, his minor league strikeout rates and good control suggest he could be an effective reliever in the majors. He'll try to win a spot in Minnesota's bullpen this spring.
