Tate Matheny

Matheny, the son of St. Louis manager Mike Matheny, was a fourth-round draft pick out of the University of Missouri. He's noted as a good all-around player with a high IQ but lacks any plus tools. A center-fielder in college, Matheny often played corner outfield with Lowell and will probably get slotted there again in Low-A Greenville while Luis Alexander Basabe gets the reps in center. Matheny didn't hit well at Lowell (.181/.233/.218), showing very little power.
