John Norwood

The Marlins' outfield was stripped down over the winter, and Norwood is on the short list of players in the system who may be capable of stepping in. He spent the entirety of his age-24 season at Double-A, posting excellent rate stats over 539 plate appearances (.379 wOBA, 141 wRC+). Those numbers were driven by a 10.9 percent walk rate and an above-average .173 ISO (19 homers). Norwood's 24.9 percent strikeout rate was manageable, but he was old for the level and that number may tick up against more advanced competition. Worst of all, his speed has been mitigated by poor instincts on the basepaths -- he has just a 53 percent success rate over the past two years (18-for-34). This profile is a little more exciting than most of the in-house alternatives, but until he carves out a big-league role, Norwood can be left alone in single-season formats.
