Balbino Fuenmayor

On a Double-A Northwest Arkansas team with well-known prospects like Raul Mondesi, Hunter Dozier and Jorge Bonifacio, Fuenmayor was the hitter who gave Texas League pitchers the most trouble. The 25-year-old first baseman hit 15 homers and slashed .354/.386/.591 in 73 games before receiving a well deserved promotion to Triple-A. He continued to produce at Omaha, but a knee injury put an end to his season in July. Perhaps the most interesting thing to note about the 6-foot-3, 230-pound slugger is that he was playing independent baseball in 2014 after washing out of the Blue Jays system. Fuenmayor did well to put his name back on the map as a noteworthy prospect heading into 2016, but his best shot at making it to the majors might be as an emergency injury replacement at first base or DH. As a journeyman he will need to make the most of every opportunity, as he won’t be afforded the same leeway that accompanies prospects with better pedigree.
