Weekly Pitcher Rankings: Cole Powers Phillies

Weekly Pitcher Rankings: Cole Powers Phillies

This article is part of our Weekly Pitcher Rankings series.

Note for the week: A good portion of teams have off-days this week, leading to the significant possibility of rotation-shuffling. For example in Toronto, Drew Hutchison and Ricky Romero get the nods Monday and Tuesday respectively. With the Jays having Thursday off, they could in theory keep Romero on his normal schedule and give him the nod on Sunday, June 3, thus making him a two-start starter while either skipping Hutchison or pushing him to Monday. In most cases, I am making the assumption that this does NOT happen, but it certainly could.

77. Michael Fiers - @LAD, PIT (check status)
78. Jeff Suppan - @CHC, ARI
79. Mike Minor - @WAS
80. Houston TBD - CIN
81. Jamie Moyer - LAD

Notes:
It's possible that Mike Minor get shelled Saturday (5/26) and is replaced by Jair Jurrjens who's pitching well in Triple-A. ... I'm guessing Michael Fiers replaces Marco Estrada (out for 3-to-4 starts with a quad injury). Fiers has been decent (8.0 K/9IP, 3.0 BB/9IP) in Triple-A this season. ... Kyle Lohse has allowed eight runs on a whopping 20 hits over his last two starts (12.2 innings), so the ERA correction is here. ... Jeremy Guthrie allowed three home runs to the Mariners last time out, so that's enough for me to downgrade him significantly this week despite his opponent being the light-hitting Astros. ... I still like him, but the Mariners took Christian Friedrich to the woodshed in his last start - eight runs in just five innings. ... Dan Bard has a 5.3 K/9IP and 5.4 BB/9IP. He might not be long for the rotation at this rate. He could eventually be replaced by Daisuke Matsuzaka (elbow) or even Roy Oswalt. ... Please tell me you saw this headline coming: "Suppan Shelled." ... Cole Hamels (7-1, 2.17 ERA, 66 strikeouts) would probably win the NL Cy Young voting if it were held today. Not a bad year considering his impeding free agency. ... Wade Miley's 2.14 ERA ranks fifth in the NL. Shocking really, and it's probably what's keeping Trevor Bauer in Triple-A. ... Ryan Dempster: 2.28 ERA, zero wins. Dillon Gee: 5.33 ERA, three wins. ... Jamie Moyer has a 7.56 ERA in his last five starts. I'm starting to think he won't last the year in Colorado, but then is that really a big surprise?

66. Tommy Hunter - @TOR, @TB
67. Scott Feldman - SEA
68. Will Smith - @CLE
69. Clay Buchholz - @TOR
70. Nathan Adcock - @CLE, OAK

Notes: Jose Quintana
gets the first crack at replacing John Danks (shoulder) in the White Sox rotation. ... I wonder if KC starter Will Smith is living a life some consider a myth? Dumb rap jokes aside, Smith isn't worthy of fantasy consideration, so he'll fit right in with the Royals pitching. ... You probably know this already, but once Neftali Feliz (elbow) returns to the active roster, it could be as a reliever. His fantasy value would plummet, as Joe Nathan has been a solid closer. The value of Alexi Ogando, however, would rise, as he'd presumably be the new fifth starter. ... Josh Tomlin will rejoin the rotation Monday, and he represents an interesting AL-only play with home starts against the offensively-challenged Royals and Twins. ... Ivan Nova has increased his K/9IP from 5.3 to 9.6 year over year. That's worth exploring more in a future article. ... Colby Lewis has a 53:9 K:BB in 60 innings. He's positioning himself for some nice free-agent offers this winter. ... Hopefully, no more jerking around of Chris Sale, who now has a 2.50 ERA on the year. Leave him in the rotation, please. ... Kevin Millwood has a streak of 17 scoreless innings. He's starting to become relevant in shallower formats, though you should remain a bit wary. ... Derek Lowe leads the AL with a 2.15 ERA despite a 15:18 K:BB. Smoke, meet mirrors. ... Jeremy Hellickson has cut his BB/9IP from 3.4 to 3.1, but with a minor league rate of 2.1, there's more growth potential there. He's been a nice surprise this year. ... Zach Britton (shoulder) could be two weeks away from a return. His return could put Brian Matusz's job in jeopardy. ... I originally had Brandon Morrow slotted as the No. 6 AL pitcher this week, but that was before Friday's ugly start. It was the Rangers, but boy was that brutal.
