DraftKings MLB: Friday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Friday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

Pitcher

Stephen Strasburg, WAS vs. PIT ($12,000): Pitchers are a bit top heavy on the main slate, making it a good idea to pay for the talents of someone like Strasburg for our first selection. The right-hander has notched a 10.3 RAA with his fastball this season, while the Pirates hold the third lowest mark in the league against the pitch. It is also worth noting that Strasburg owns a 46.3 percent ground ball rate, while Pittsburgh puts the ball on the ground at a 47 percent clip.

Jake Odorizzi, TB vs. BAL ($8,300): I have done my share of stacking against Odorizzi this season but there is no way to deny how good he's been in September, as he's kept a 1.21 ERA with 26 strikeouts over 22.1 innings. The right-hander dominated Baltimore on the road in his last start and should be able to achieve similar results in his final outing of the season, as The Orioles hold a bottom-10 wOBA away from Camden Yards to go along with a 23.2 percent strikeout rate.

Catcher

Wilson Ramos, TB vs. BAL ($3,500): Ramos hasn't been the same hitter we saw in 2016 after missing almost three months to begin the season while recovering from a torn ACL but the 30-year-old is making up for lost time in September, as he has registered a .333/.350/.632 slash line over 57 at-bats. Opposing starter Wade Miley likely can't wait for the season to end, as he has been hammered to the tune of a 9.92 ERA in four starts this month.

First Base

Rhys Hoskins, PHI vs. NYM ($4,300): Opposing offenses have been feasting off of Matt Harvey since he returned from a shoulder injury in September, as evidenced by the 11.78 ERA he has notched in five games (four starts) this month. Hoskins has been playing the game on its easiest setting since his call up in August, and now owns a .364 ISO against right-handed pitching over 118 at-bats.

Second base

Joe Panik, SF vs. SD ($3,700): Success has been hard to come by regardless of the role for Jordan Lyles this season, as he has tallied a 7.23 ERA in 37 games (four starts) in time split with the Padres and Rockies. He has registered a -8.3 RAA with his fastball over that span. Panik has notched a 7.9 RAA against the heater while logging a .367/.416/506 slash line over 79 at-bats in September.

Third Base

Matt Chapman, OAK at TEX ($3,200): Chapman has shown big power against both sides of the platoon this season, resulting in a .241 ISO over 278 at-bats. The 24-year-old's bloated strikeout rate makes him difficult to select sometimes but that shouldn't be a problem against Martin Perez, who has struck out just 78 right-handed batters over 141.1 innings while allowing a .480 slugging percentage over that span.

Shortstop

Jose Reyes, NYM at PHI ($3,800): Reyes seems intent on finishing the season strong, as he has tallied a .217 ISO with a .383 wOBA over 92 at-bats in September. Meanwhile, Ben Lively has notched just a 10.8 percent strikeout rate against left-handers, contributing to a 6.14 xFIP in 39.2 innings.

Outfield

Jay Bruce, CLE vs. CWS ($3,900): Bruce has slowed a bit in September but still holds a .269 ISO against right-handed pitching over 379 at-bats this season. Opposing starter Mike Pelfrey will make his first start since allowing seven runs to the Indians over four innings Sept. 7. He has surrendered 14 homers in 54.2 innings to left-handed hitters in 2017.

Mitch Haniger, Sea at LAA ($4,100): Injuries have limited Haniger to 93 games this season but the 26-year-old is showing what he can do in September, as he has tallied a .257 ISO and a .405 wOBA over 105 at-bats. He has an opportunity to keep the train rolling against Tyler Skaggs, who has kept a 1.4 HR/9 rate against righties while allowing a 35.8 percent hard contact rate over 62.2 innings.

Curtis Granderson, LAD at COL ($3,800): Lost in Granderson's .210/.323/.455 slash line this season is the tremendous .260 ISO he has logged against right-handers over 338 at-bats. Chad Bettis has been hit hard by lefties this season, surrendering a .577 slugging percentage over 18.2 innings.
