Yahoo DFS Baseball: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Pitcher

Dallas Keuchel, HOU at NYY ($49): All four offenses match up reasonably well against their opposing starting pitchers, but Keuchel is worth a look because his extreme groundball rate has made it difficult to generate power against him in any environment. The left-hander finished 2017 with a sparkling 2.90 ERA and has not allowed an earned run against the Yankees in 13 innings (two starts) between the playoffs and regular season. He has struck out 19 batters over that span.

Jake Arrieta, CHC vs. LAD ($38): Arrieta excelled at home during the regular season, logging a 2.90 ERA and .344 slugging percentage against over 59 innings. He surrendered just four homers over that span. The Dodgers didn't have much trouble hitting anyone in 2017 but did strike out over 22 percent of the time against right-handed pitching.

Catcher

Willson Contreras, CHC vs. LAD ($16): Alex Wood threw the ball well overall in 2017 but had trouble keeping it in the park down the stretch, as he allowed 10 homers over 54 innings in August and September. Contreras is one of several right-handed Chicago bats capable of leaving the yard against lefty pitching, as evidenced by the .243 ISO he tallied over 111 at-bats.

First Base

Yulieski Gurriel, HOU at NYY ($16): Gurriel nearly gets the nod by default here, as our other options are stuck with lefty-on-lefty matchups, but there are reasons to feel good about the rookie, as he notched a .204 ISO against same-handed hurlers over 382 at-bats. Masahiro Tanaka posted a solid 3.22 ERA at home this season but still allowed a 1.4 HR/9 rate over 95 innings at Yankee Stadium.

Second Base

Javier Baez, CHC vs. LAD ($9): Baez has yet to record a hit in the playoffs, but DFS players should still be aware that he posted a .266 ISO and a .378 wOBA against lefties over 124 at-bats in the regular season. We mentioned Wood's trouble with the home run above, which could make Baez an interesting play for those who want an option with value that their competition likely won't be in on.

Third Base

Todd Frazier, NYY vs. HOU ($14): Frazier's numbers against lefties in the regular season will surprise some, as he notched a .345 ISO against southpaws in 116 at-bats. Frazier could be someone to take advantage of the groundball tendencies of Keuchel due to the 47.5 percent fly ball rate he logged in 2017.

Shortstop

Carlos Correa, HOU at NYY ($22): Correa had a better overall showing against lefties but hit for more power against righties during the regular season, tallying a .239 ISO over 330 at-bats. The shortstop finished 2017 with a career-best 20.2 RAA against the fastball, while Tanaka's heater registered a -15.4 RAA through 30 starts.

Outfield

Matt Holliday, NYY vs. HOU ($11): Holliday hasn't found his way into the lineup much this postseason but should draw the start against the lefty, as he notched a .209 ISO and .361 wOBA against his opposite hand over 86 at-bats during the regular season. Keuchel saw a spike in his home run rate on the road in 2017, when he allowed 11 long balls over 74 innings.

Josh Reddick, HOU at NYY ($15): Reddick capped off the regular season with a robust .594 slugging percentage in September and could break out of his postseason funk against Tanaka, as he will put his 42.3 percent fly ball rate against the right-hander's extreme groundball tendencies.

Andre Ethier, LAD at CHC ($7): Ethier made his first postseason start Tuesday in place of the struggling Curtis Granderson and didn't disappoint, going 2-for-4 with a homer in the contest. The veteran was effective in limited at-bats after returning from injury, logging a .206 ISO and a 10.5 percent walk rate over 22 games.
