Ian Clark

Clark's second year in Golden State came with improvements across the board. The 26-year-old guard took part in 77 games, while notching career highs with 6.8 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists across 14.8 minutes. He also shot 48.7 percent from the field and 37.4 percent from the three-point line, both of which were also career bests. Clark has shown steady improvement each year, but the last two seasons playing with arguably the best roster in the league has hurt his chances of taking on a significant role. His move to the Pelicans in the offseason could help his case for added playing time, although he received just a one-year, $1.6 million contract this offseason, so it's unclear how big of a role New Orleans is expecting him to have. The Pelicans don't possess the talent the Warriors do, but they do still have two very solid guards in Rajon Rondo and Jrue Holiday. The Pelicans are expected to use Holiday off the ball at shooting guard next to Rondo, but that doesn't necessarily mean Holiday isn't going to see time at the point as well. Clark should operate as the third option behind the two aforementioned players and he should be able to see a slight uptick in court time from the 14.8 minutes he averaged with Golden State. Look for Clark to operate as a key bench piece, bringing a sharpshooting presence with the second unit. However, his value largely depends on his scoring and three-point numbers, which is likely going to limit him to deeper leagues.

Clark was signed to a two-year, non-guaranteed deal with the Warriors in July. The Warriors have two open roster spots, so Clark will have an opportunity to earn one of those in training camp and the preseason, but even if he were to earn a job on the Warriors, Clark wouldn't get many minutes. The 6-3 guard out of Belmont has played for the Jazz and Nuggets over the last two seasons, but he's never been able to get more than spot minutes, averaging less than 10 minutes per game in the few times he's touched the court. Clark played seven games in the D-League last season for Idaho, averaging 14.0 points, 2.6 three-pointers, 2.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.1 steals in 32 mpg while shooting 43 percent from the field, 45 percent from three, and 67 percent from the line. He's a score-first guard with an adept three-point shot, but at 6-3, he's undersized for the shooting guard type of game he has. In all likelihood, Clark will latch onto a team this season, but it's doubtful he'd play enough minutes to be of use in anything but the deepest of leagues.

Ian Clark will enter the 2014-15 season buried on the depth chart at point guard behind Trey Burke, Dante Exum, and Alec Burks. Even though the Jazz allowed Clark's sophomore contract to become guaranteed in the offseason, he'll face an uphill battle improving his averages from his rookie season (3.0 points, 0.8 rebounds, 0.7 assists, 0.3 steals, and 0.5 three-pointers in eight minutes per game). He played in 23 games last season while also serving multiple stints in the D-League. New coach Quin Snyder will likely spend the season encouraging the 23-year-old to improve his shot quality, considering that Clark only connected on 39 percent of his shots from the field and just 71 percent from the charity stripe last season.

Clark was signed after an impressive summer league in which he scored 33 points in the Vegas championship game. There are minutes to be had behind Burke, so the undrafted rookie will at least get some chances to play his way into the rotation.
