Yahoo DFS Basketball: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Basketball series.

Guards

Trey Burke, NYK vs. ORL ($22): Burke recently took over starting point guard duties in New York and he's starting to show why he was such a special player at Michigan. Not only has he scored at least 29 fantasy points in five straight games, but Burke is averaging 41.4 fantasy points per game in that span. That should be no surprise either when you consider he has a usage rate approaching 30 percent in that span while averaging 33 minutes per game. Not to mention, he faces an Orlando defense that allows the third-most fantasy points to opposing point guards.

Tyler Ulis, PHX vs. SAC ($13): Ulis has been starting recently in the absence of Devin Booker and Elfrid Payton, as it's increased his fantasy value exponentially. Not only has he played at least 37 minutes in three straight games, but Ulis has scored at least 28 fantasy points in five of his last six games. That's hard to find from a $13 player, as Yahoo is clearly slow to adjust to this newly expanded role.

Guard to Avoid

Lou Williams, LAC vs. SAN ($29): Williams has been mired in a bit of a slump over recent weeks, as he could struggle against an elite defense like the Spurs'. Williams is averaging just 25 fantasy points per game in his last four outings, and his usage has fallen since the Clippers acquired Tobias Harris. What also will hurt his role is the fact that Danilo Gallinari is also back, as that likely means fewer possessions and fewer shots.

Forwards

Paul Millsap, DEN vs. IND ($25): Millsap was slow to adjust after returning from a hand injury, but he's shown recently why he's been an All-Star in the past. He has at least 33 fantasy points in five of his last six games and has scored at least 49 fantasy points in back-to-back outings.

Robert Covington, PHI vs. BRK ($21): Covington is coming off one of the best games of his career and this increase in role should continue with all of the injuries Philly is dealing with. Joel Embiid is out and Dario Saric is dealing with an injury of his own, while Covington's 11 rebounds in that most recent game indicate he's helping to make up for the loss in rebound production. This increased role pairs beautifully with a nice stretch, as Covington has at least 32 fantasy points in four of his last five games.

Forward to Avoid

Al Horford, BOS at MIL ($24): Horford is in a similar position as Williams, as he's only cracked 24 fantasy points five times in his last 14 games -- he's scored in the teens in five of those games ,as well. That simply won't get it done, and he faces a Milwaukee defense Tuesday that allows the 10th-fewest fantasy points to opposing power forwards. Both teams also rank bottom-10 in pace, thus limiting fantasy production, at least in theory.

FORWARD TO AVOID

Centers

Marquese Chriss, PHX vs. SAC ($17): Chriss has at least 36 fantasy points in three straight games and should continue to see increased minutes in the absence of Tyson Chandler and Alex Len. He's played at least 30 minutes in all three of the aforementioned games, while ranking second on the team in usage during that stretch. The matchup may be what's most enticing, though, with Sacramento sitting 28th in defensive efficiency.

Jarrett Allen, BRK at PHI ($10):. Allen has scored at least 24 fantasy points in five of his last six games and is averaging 26 fantasy points per game in that span. This is a matchup worth exploiting, as Philly will likely be without Joel Embiid and Dario Saric up front. The shorthanded frontcourt already allows the 10th-most fantasy points to opposing centers, and Allen should be able to exploit them.

Center to Avoid

DeAndre Jordan, LAC vs. SAN ($30): Jordan has traditionally struggled against the Spurs and it's no surprise why when looking at the numbers. San Antonio ranks third in defensive efficiency while allowing the third-fewest fantasy points to opposing centers. Jordan is averaging fewer than 25 fantasy points per game in the last two seasons against the Spurs. Not to mention, he's dealing with a swollen ankle Tuesday and could be less than 100 percent.
