Bludgeons Washington in final game
January 3, 2019
Weber carried 15 times for 96 yards and nabbed his lone target for an eight-yard reception Tuesday in Ohio State's 27-23 win over Washington in the Rose Bowl.
ANALYSIS
Though he declared for the 2019 NFL Draft prior to the contest, Weber stuck around for one last game with the Buckeyes and outproduced fellow back J.K. Dobbins. Weber's impending departure paves the way for Dobbins to play a greater percentage of the backfield snaps in 2019, though Ohio State will presumably incorporate another rusher into the mix to reduce the strain on Dobbins.

The power complement to J.K. Dobbins electric running style, Weber took full advantage of his 101 carries to rush for 626 yards (6.20 yards per carry) and 10 touchdowns as part of a high-powered Buckeyes offense. Although it might look a little different with Dwayne Haskins under center this season, Weber and Dobbins should remain a constant one-two punch for Ohio State. Although Dobbins could receive more touches overall, Weber could close the gap from a fantasy standpoint as the preferred option near the goal line.
Weber entered last season in Ezekiel Elliott's giant shadow, but he comported himself well as Ohio State's new top running back, cracking 1,000 yards while averaging 6.0 YPC and rushing for nine touchdowns. He runs behind one of the best lines in the land and has the power-speed combo to get by defenders once he reaches the second level. There are a lot of mouths to feed in the Ohio State run game with some talented backs behind him in addition to J.T. Barrett, but Weber is a safe bet for 1,000 yards and double-digit touchdowns.
The former four-star recruit out of Michigan was redshirted last season due in part to a torn meniscus in fall camp and a roster loaded with established upperclassmen starters. Now that Ezekiel Elliott has moved onto the NFL, Weber is locked into the starting running back role for Ohio State, and he should secure a big workload with running back Bri’onte Dunn dismissed from the team. Weber is a likely standout talent with a huge opportunity, setting the stage for a fantasy breakout.
