Throws TD and adds rushing score
December 27, 2019
Smith went 13-for-28 for 163 yards, one touchdown, and one interception Thursday against Miami in the Independence Bowl. He also rushed 10 times for 34 yards and a score.
ANALYSIS
This was an ugly game offensively for both teams, as Smith was involved in the only two touchdowns of the game for both sides. The senior has started for the Bulldogs for three years in a row, so La Tech will have to figure out how to replace him now.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2019
2018
Smith had an impressive year under center in 2017, his first as a starter. He threw 16 touchdowns against only five interceptions, and he added 371 yards and six scores with his legs as well. Perhaps he had second-year jitters, because 2018 was a decided step down. Smith's touchdown total dropped to 15, which his interception number rose to 10. He also only rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns. If the senior doesn't have a rebound campaign, fantasy owners would be wise to ignore him. For, we have to wait and see if he's made the necessary improvements this offseason.
Smith showed promise as a dual-threat quarterback in 2017, passing for 2,974 yards and 16 touchdowns while rushing for 371 yards and six scores. Despite concerns about his accuracy (56 percent completion percentage last year), he appears to have locked down the starting job. Although star wideout Teddy Veal sat out due to injury during the spring, the team is hopeful he'll be healthy in time for the regular season, as he will undoubtedly be Smith's top target when on the field. The fourth-year quarterback finds himself in an offensive scheme that averaged 32 attempts through the air and 228 passing yards per game a season ago, which figures to warrant a fair amount of fantasy production if he can augment it with some rushing numbers.
