2016 Fantasy Outlook
The former Dodge City Conquistador was the most sought-after JUCO running back in the 2016 recruiting cycle and he enrolled at Florida in January. His extra time in the program has allowed him to get acclimated to the system and he lived up to his billing during Florida’s spring game by running for 46 yards on five carries, including a 25-yard touchdown. At 6-2, 240, Thompson is a hulking running back that has uncommon speed for his size (clocked at 4.37 in the 40 yard dash). With Kelvin Taylor now playing in the NFL, Florida’s pecking order at running back is up in the air and Thompson appears primed to take the lead. Florida also has a tandem of true sophomores Jordan Scarlett and Jordan Cronkite, and Thompson’s lack of experience against SEC competition is a bit of a concern, but his raw talent combined with his early enrollee status ought to soften his learning curve. While Thompson is unlikely to get the vast majority of the carries this year like Taylor did in 2015 (259 out of 337 carries distributed to the top three RB’s), he could push for 200 carries and with that, he should be a viable fantasy asset.
