Richardson was the team's third-string quarterback during the 2017 campaign, but he wound up starting the last two games of the campaign after multiple injuries at the position. Mason Petrino was ahead of him on the depth chart before suffering a shoulder issue and remains part of the competition, but the departure of four-year starter Matt Linehan leaves the job open. Coach Paul Petrino doesn't have any plans of naming a starter in the spring, so expect the competition to carry over into the fall.
