Coach's Decision
October 22, 2023
Harris (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's matchup against the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Harris' playing time has dropped in back-to-back weeks after he played at least 60 percent of the Lions' defensive snaps in each of the first four games of 2023. John Cominsky appears to have supplanted Harris as a starting defensive end, while Romeo Okwara and Julian Okwara will maintain rotational roles.

2019
After looking like a bust in Miami and Atlanta, Harris seems to be getting his career back on track after totaling 7.5 sacks for Detroit in 2022. While the bad news is that he needed 836 defensive snaps to get there, the good news is that playing time again shouldn't be a problem for Harris thanks to Romoe Okwara's slow recovery from a torn Achilles. Opposing offensive lines won't be able to key on him, though, thanks to the presence of Michael Brockers in the interior and No. 2 overall pick, Aidan Hutchinson, at the other defensive end spot. While Okwara could dig into Harris' snap count down the stretch, look for Harris to get all the pass-rush opportunities he can handle during the first half of the upcoming season.
Busting out as a first-round draft pick with Miami, Harris will have a chance to earn a depth role at defensive end with Detroit.
Harris appears primed to take snaps at both defensive end and outside linebacker in 2019. The smoothness of Harris' transition may come down to the quantity of his preseason reps, and whether or not he's able to shed the wrist injury that limited him throughout OTAs. It remains to be seen how Harris' positional split will ultimately play out, but it's possible that lining up outside the tackles could allow the 2017 first-round pick to play to his strengths as a pass rusher.
