Lorenzo Carter

28-Year-Old LinebackerLB
Atlanta Falcons
2023 Fantasy Outlook
In his first season with Atlanta, Carter registered a career-high 58 tackles and played in 17 games. The Falcons re-signed the 27-year-old to a two-year deal this offseason, and he'll likely garner a similar starting role for an improved defense in 2023. Carter has never put together a stellar sack season, but he has shown flashes as a pass rusher and notched his first career pick-six in 2022, marking back-to-back seasons with an interception. Rotational role in 2023
LBAtlanta Falcons
January 17, 2024
Carter finished 2023 with 35 tackles (24 solo), 3.0 sacks, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and one pass defense in 17 appearances.
ANALYSIS
Despite not missing a game, Carter played less than half as many defensive snaps in 2023 (406) than he did in 2022 (877). Despite a drop in overall tackle numbers, Carter still made an occasional impact as a pass rusher. The 2018 third-round pick has one year remaining on his current deal, and he figures to handle a similar role in 2024, though he could see an uptick in snaps if Bud Dupree signs elsewhere this offseason.

Carter inked a one-year deal this offseason, replacing Dante Fowler as Atlanta's top edge. The 2018 third-round pick spent his first four seasons with the Giants, but he surged at the end of the 2021 campaign, registering five sacks in the final four games. Outside of that stretch, Carter hasn't popped as a pass rusher, but he's been modestly productive, with 153 tackles, 14.5 sacks, 15 pass defenses and one interception across 49 appearances. The Falcons will look to capitalize on the promise Carter showed at the end of last year as they try to revamp their defense.
Carter is slated to compete for snaps at weak side linebacker for the Giants after tearing his Achilles last October. He has some pass-rushing skills, but probably won't log a heavy enough snap count to be useful.
Will be in the team's outside linebacker rotation and contribute as an edge rusher.
Entering the NFL as a third-round draft choice out of Georgia, Carter had an encouraging rookie campaign in 2018. The 6-foot-5 linebacker made 15 appearances -- starting twice over the latter half of the year -- and recorded 30 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 10 QB hits and four sacks. He's an X-factor for the young Giants pass-rushing nucleus consisting of him, B.J. Hill and Kareem Martin amongst others.
