ANALYSIS
Ayers wasn't on an NFL roster during the 2018 season and is closing in on his 34th birthday next month. The Tennessee product still had a stellar career, however, racking up 246 tackles (178 solo) and 35 sacks in 105 games over eight seasons.

Ayers notched four sacks over his last six games of 2016 on his way to a total of 6.5 quarterback takedowns, while also tallying 29 tackles (21 solo), one pass defensed and one forced fumble. One of the more notable free_agent signings for the Bucs a year ago, the veteran is expected to be even more effective in his second year in defensive coordinator Mike Smith's scheme, and is once again likely to see some time in the middle alongside Gerald McCoy as well.
One of the Bucs' major offseason acquistions following a career year with the Giants in 2015, Ayers is expected to be deployed at both end and tackle in the coming season. The versatile lineman has received notable time at both positions in various packages throughout offseason work and in the early portions of training camp. Ayers' greatest value may well come from his ability to provide a consistent push in the pocket from any spot along the line, rendering him a solid IDP value.
Pass-rushing defensive end, could see more work if Jason Pierre-Paul is slow to recover from a hand injury.
Rotating defensive end, could also see some time as a pass-rushing linebacker.
Will get the opportunity to win a starting defensive end job despite his relatively disappointing time in Denver throughout his career. If Von Miller is suspended for the first four games of the season, Ayers will be heavily relied upon to pressure the quarterback.
Will start at defensive end, although he still hasn't become the pass rusher that the Broncos expected him to be when they drafted him 18th overall in 2009. If opposing teams have to double Elvis Dumervil and Von Miller, Ayers could get his chances at the quarterback.
Ayers will move back to defensive end this season, the position he played in college where he had his biggest impact. With new head coach John Fox's defensive makeover, Ayers should have more chances to rush the quarterback, especially with 2009 NFL sack leader Elvis Dumervil back on the field.
Ayers was expected to have an impact for the Broncos after he was selected in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft, but he was relatively disappointing throughout the season. More is expected of him in 2010 and although he has had some issues with the coaching staff during preseason workouts, he has plenty of time to establish himself as a solid pass rusher in Denver.
Ayers will be asked to provide explosiveness from the outside and could provide a good number of sacks throughout the season. The Broncos used the 18th pick in the 2009 Draft on the former Tennessee Volunteer specifically to increase the talent along the defensive line, one that struggled mightily in 2008. He should get plenty of reps on the field may even be put on the field as a linebacker to increase his sack opportunities.
