The Cardinals released Ross on Saturday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Ross tried his hand as a punt returner during the preseason, but his results (five runbacks for 20 yards and four fair catches) didn't catch the eye of the coaching staff. Elsewhere, he averaged nearly 25 yards on four kick returns, while reeling in 11 of 18 passes for 151 yards and one touchdown. Perhaps Ross will be on call in the event of an injury in Arizona, but Brittan Golden and rookie Chad Williams were able to lock down the final two spots at wide receiver.

Ross made his mark in the 2016 season finale, gathering in all four passes for 37 yards and one touchdown. His brief dalliance with the Cardinals has thus opened the door for perhaps the final spot in the wide receiver room come Week 1. However, he'll have to hold off Brittan Golden and Aaron Dobson for the gig
Ross does most of his work on special teams and is buried on the Jets' wide receiver depth chart. Thus, it's tough to envision him receiving enough playing time to warrant much, if any, fantasy consideration in anything but the deepest of formats. At press time, he's not even a lock to make the final roster, and even if he did, Ross is unlikely to see consistent targets with a laundry list of receivers, and likely a pair of running backs, ahead of him in the team's passing-game pecking order.
Ross caught 24 passes for 314 yards and a touchdown in 16 games during the 2014 season and served as the Lions returner for both kicks and punts. A strong showing in training camp could lock him back into the third receiver spot, but he’ll have to fend off Corey Fuller, Lance Moore and Ryan Broyles for that spot and Ameer Abdullah to continue with his role in the return game.
Ross will have trouble cracking the deep wide receiver depth chart of the Lions.
Ross will battle in training camp for a reserve receiver position. He contributed in 2012 in the return game and could emerge in that spot again if the Packers opt to protect Randall Cobb from contact on returns.
Ross signed as an undrafted free agent with New England last year and then signed with the Colts after he didn't stay on the roster. He's with the right team to get an opportunity and has the speed (4.39 40-yard dahs time) to win a reserve role.
Battling for reserve wideout/return role.
