Gray (quadriceps) was released from injured reserve after reaching an injury settlement with the Jaguars, Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union reports.
ANALYSIS
Gray was initially waived by Jacksonville last week and then placed on IR. Prior to injuring his leg, Gray faced an uphill battle to make the team, and it appears he wasn't a part of their future plans, so he and the Jaguars decided to part ways.

Signed off the Dolphins' practice squad in December, Gray was in competition for a spot on the Jaguars' roster as the team's fourth running back. The Jags ultimately decided not to roster him behind the intriguing tandem of T.J. Yeldon and free-agent addition Chris Ivory, though, since they already had Denard Robinson performing well in the No. 3 role. Gray was ultimately released midway through the preseason.
In the wake of Stevan Ridley’s season-ending injury in Week 6 last season, opportunity knocked for the 5-10, 225-pound Gray, who opened the campaign on the Patriots’ practice squad. When Gray ran 37 times for 201 yards with four TDs against the Colts in Week 11, it looked like he would emerge as a fantasy force down the stretch. However, just five days after his monster effort against Indianapolis, Gray overslept and was late for practice. Though he suited up for Week 12’s game against the Lions, he didn’t record a single offensive snap in the contest and was quickly and unceremoniously supplanted by LeGarrette Blount, who had joined the Patriots for a second stint after being released by the Steelers. Gray ended up receiving just 20 more carries over the rest of the regular season and was inactive for three of the Patriots’ final four games, including Super Bowl XLIX.
Heading into the season, the Patriots will carry running backs Stevan Ridley, Shane Vereen, James White and Brandon Bolden on their 53-man roster, with Gray on the practice squad and thus an option to re-join the team's backfield mix in the event of an injury.
.
Gray wasn't drafted due to quite a few injuries in college. He could be a sleeper to watch in training camp, but is also fighting an uphill battle to make the squad.
