Joseph Randle

Despite a productive career at Oklahoma State and background as a high school track star, Randle's poor Combine time in the 40 (4.63) caused him to slink into the NFL in 2013 with little fanfare as a fifth-round pick. He became DeMarco Murray's primary backup last season, though, and seemed to blossom at the same time Murray did, more than doubling his YPC and averaging a ridiculous 4.2 yards after contact, most among backs with at least 50 touches. How much of that improvement can be attributed to the Cowboys' all-world offensive line is a valid question, as Randle often seemed to have no one within five yards of him when he hit the line of scrimmage. But he also played faster than his disappointing 40 time, and showed excellent vision and a willingness to fight through tacklers. A shoplifting incident after Week 6, and an offseason altercation with an ex-girlfriend that ended up with no charges filed, raise red flags in the new scandal-averse NFL, but with Murray now in Philadelphia and only injury-prone veteran Darren McFadden as a major offseason addition to the depth chart, Randle should get his chance to prove he deserves a major role in the Dallas backfield.
