Makes return from pec injury

Carrier was not targeted against the Chargers in Week 18 during his return from a 12-game absence.
ANALYSIS
Carrier, who suffered a pectoral injury in early October, closed out the regular season with two catches on as many targets for 13 yards in five games. He'll continue to provide depth behind fellow tight ends Darren Waller and Foster Moreau against the Bengals on Saturday, but Carrier is headed for unrestricted free agency following the postseason.

Carrier was relegated primarily to special teams duties in 2020 upon the brief resurrection of Jason Witten's career, but the latter's return to retirement may allow Carrier to spend more time as a blocker next to the offensive line in 2021. As long as playmaking tight ends Darren Waller and Foster Moreau stay healthy, however, targets in the Raiders' aerial attack will be tough to come by for Carrier.
Carrier was limited to 13 receptions for 108 yards and a touchdown on 17 targets in 16 games last season while fellow tight end Darren Waller enjoyed a breakout campaign and rookie Foster Moreau hauled in five scores. The Raiders added veteran Jason Witten to the mix this offseason, so Carrier figures to continue seeing a majority of his snaps on special teams as long as he makes the 53-man roster again.
Carrier's lone touchdown reception during his first season with the Raiders turned out to be a game-winner against the Steelers in Week 14, but the tight end served primarily as a special-teamer in 2018, while Jared Cook continued his resurgence. Carrier even logged 51 less offensive snaps than blocking tight end Lee Smith. Oakland will be without both Cook and Smith heading into 2019 but they've added Luke Willson and rookie Foster Moreau to compete for targets alongside Darren Waller, so expect Carrier's fantasy relevance to remain limited.
The Clive Walford project is finally over in Oakland, so the Raiders brought in Carrier and his five years of experience to provide insurance at the tight end position behind 31-year-old Jared Cook. Carrier has logged just 10 receptions on 13 targets in 22 games since the start of the 2016 season, while Cook's target share is unlikely to be affected by Carrier's arrival.
With the Redskins boasting a deep tight-end corps during training camp, Carrier was caught in a numbers game and ended up being dealt to the Rams at the conclusion of the preseason in September. Carrier will have an easier path to snaps in Los Angeles, and his existing familiarity with first-year Rams head coach and former Redskins offensive coordinator Sean McVay should help him acclimate quickly to his new team. While the Rams value Carrier for his comfort in lining up at various spots on the offense, it's unlikely that he'll be a prominent target for quarterback Jared Goff. During his two-year stint with the Redskins, Carrier logged just 19 receptions for 151 yards and a touchdown in 20 games.
Carrier’s first season with the Redskins in 2015 would have surely been considered a major success had he not suffered a torn ACL and MCL late last season. Carrier was on the field for 38 percent of the Redskins’ offensive snaps, second only to emerging star Jordan Reed. However, this season the Redskins return tight ends Niles Paul and Logan Paulsen from season ending injuries and also added veteran Vernon Davis to their roster. All considerations taken into account, Carrier does not enter a favorable situation in 2016, especially when noting that he is starting training camp late due to his knee injury.
Despite drafting two tight ends in this year's draft, the 49ers signed Carrier to a two-year extension this offseason. This shows their confidence in him as a backup, and he will likely end up third or fourth on the depth chart.
Carrier will compete for a depth tight end spot in 2014. With Garrett Celek still dealing with a back issue, it looks like Carrier will make the 53-man roster as the 49ers' third tight end.
