Huff was waived by the Saints on Tuesday, Nick Underhill of The New Orleans Advocate reports.
ANALYSIS
Huff was looking to earn a role as a depth receiver for the Saints, but they have ultimately decided to look in another direction. The 26-year-old pass catcher is facing a two-game ban for violating the league's substance abuse policy whenever he lands on a roster, which could have contributed towards New Orleans' decision.

Off-the-field issues led to Huff's arrival in Tampa in the latter part of 2016 following his release by the Eagles. The mercurial wideout made it on the field for three games late last season, totaling three receptions for 41 yards while adding five rushing yards and 72 kick return yards. Huff's primary competition for the fifth receiver and kick-returner jobs in 2017 appears to be third-year Donteea Dye and Freddie Martino, two players whose skill sets overlap significantly with his. However, Huff was notably signed to a two-year contract extension last December, a sign that the team sees solid potential in the former Oregon Duck.
Huff saw his involvement in the Eagles' passing game increase quite a bit from his rookie campaign in 2014 to last season, when he secured 27 receptions for 312 yards and three touchdowns on 40 targets. The 24-year-old also racked up 498 yards as a kick returner, a role he may fill once again throughout 2016. Philadelphia's crowded receiving corps also includes Nelson Agholor, Rueben Randle and Jordan Matthews, all of whom figure to be above Huff in the pecking order.
A preseason shoulder injury did its best to ruin Huff's rookie season, as the third-round pick out of Oregon sat out until Week 5, and upon returning he never got in rhythm. Playing 210 snaps, Huff finished the year with 18 targets but just eight catches for 98 yards, which is very inefficient. Huff is probably just average as an athlete, but he's well built at around 210 pounds and has an extensive history with Chip Kelly. He also showed some big-play ability as a kick returner last year, averaging 29.6 yards on 14 returns, with one going for a 107-yard touchdown. He might push Riley Cooper for targets as the year moves along.
Huff doesn't have top-notch size or speed, but he does the little things well and Chip Kelly has first-hand knowledge of his versatility from their time together in Oregon. He'll complete with fellow draftee Jordan Matthews for targets behind Jeremy Maclin and Riley Cooper, but might be better positioned to take advantage of any injuries despite being a lower pick than Matthews.
