FanDuel NHL: Sunday Value Plays

FanDuel NHL: Sunday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

Goalie

Mike Smith, CGY vs CHI ($7,800): Smith is in a good spot against the Blackhawks, who have an average of 1.75 goals per game over their last four. He stopped 39 of 41 shots he faced in his last start against the Ducks but was dealt with a tough-luck loss. Against a struggling offense in a home assignment, Smith has a solid floor and high upside.

Center

Mathew Barzal, NYI at COL ($5,700): Barzal continues to be a major salary saver while still producing at a high level for the Islanders. He draws a good matchup with a Colorado club that's allowed 13 goals and 31 assists over its last 13 games to centers, contributing to the second-most points allowed to the position over the last four weeks. Barzal had his five-game point streak broken last game, but he's as steady as could be for the Isles with 13 goals and 23 assists on the season.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, EDM vs WPG ($5,400): Playing second fiddle to Connor McDavid has been just fine for RNH, who has three goals and four assists in his last six games. The Jets have allowed the fifth-most fantasy points to centers over the last four weeks. During what projects as a high-scoring affair, RNH could build on the three points he's scored in his last five matchups against the Jets.

Wing

Mikko Rantanen, COL vs NYI ($5,900): With at least one point in nine of his last 10 games (four goals, seven assists), Rantanen has been on fire but has still seen his price drop below $6,000. He's part of a dynamic young line with Nathan MacKinnon and Gabriel Landeskog, a unit that has come to life over the last couple of weeks while showing continuity. He has six goals and eight assists on the power play, as well, giving him solid upside in a potential high-scoring game.

Kyle Connor, WPG at EDM ($4,200): So far so good without Mark Scheifele centering him. Connor had a goal in his last game with Blake Wheeler and Patrik Laine. It was Connor's second goal in as many games and 12th of the season. It's hard to believe Connor's price has dropped down as low as it is provided his production, ice time and power-play exposure on the top unit. He'll be a popular play Sunday but a solid option nonetheless.

Jesse Puljujarvi, EDM vs WPG ($4,300): Still just 19 years old, the fourth overall pick in the 2016 Draft has taken some time to get comfortable in the NHL, but he seems to be gaining confidence with every game he plays. Of course, skating on Connor McDavid's line may help. Puljujarvi has a goal in back to back games to go along with 13 shots over that span. He saw a season high in ice time in his last game with 20:24.

Defense

Erik Johnson, COL vs NYI ($4,400): The Islanders have been destroyed by defensemen over the last four weeks, a 13-game span for them in which they've allowed 14 goals and 23 assists to the position, major factors as to why they've surrendered the most fantasy points over that span. Johnson offers a solid floor with his ability to get pucks on net and block shots. He has at least 9.60 fantasy points in each of his last three games.

Oscar Klefbom, EDM vs WPG ($4,700): Klefbom missed some time with an injury over the last week but returned Friday with an assist, four shots on goal and three blocked shots. Klefbom is solid in the offensive zone even if his production is down a bit from last year. He provides a worthy floor with blocked shots and shots on goal while holding good upside with his scoring ability. The Jets have allowed the sixth-most fantasy points to defensemen over the last four weeks, and Klefbom will take advantage of that tonight.
