DraftKings NHL: Friday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

James Reimer, FLA at DET ($7,400): With a .946 save percentage and 1.87 GAA through his past 10 starts, Reimer has settled into a nice groove. His salary opens up spending room for skaters, and Detroit checks out as a favorable matchup. The Red Wings have generated the sixth fewest high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes (10.07) in the league this season, and that mark drops to 9.6 since Dec. 1.

CENTER

John Tavares, NYI vs. PIT ($7,300): The Penguins head to Brooklyn with an active 5-9-0 record while surrendering a hefty 11.06 high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes. This will also be Pittsburgh's second game in consecutive nights, which should force rookie Tristan Jarry into nets. Tavares' salary is way down, perhaps because he has just one goal and one helper through his past four contests. However, considering his elite 3.64 points per 60 minutes for the campaign, there's no reason for a discounted price.

Nick Schmaltz, CHI vs. VGK ($4,800): The Golden Knights have been a little more vulnerable on the road with 3.26 goals allowed per game, and Vegas enters following a tough-luck 2-1 road loss to St. Louis on Thursday. Schmaltz is also currently locked into a ripe offensive setup skating with the No. 1 power-play unit and with Patrick Kane at even strength. The 21-year-old pivot also has collected four goals and 10 points through his past 10 contests.

WING

Kyle Connor, WPG vs. BUF ($5,800): The Sabres have only won two of their past 10 road games, and enter this matchup following a 6-2 thrashing at the hands of the Wild in Minnesota. Buffalo's now allowing 3.68 goals per away contest, so this should be a soft spot for the Jets. Connor is skating in a top offensive role and has collected three goals, three assists and 15 shots through his past five contests to up him to a respectable 2.43 points per 60 minutes for the campaign.

Joe Pavelski, SAN at OTT ($5,700): With 16 points -- four goals -- through his past 19 contests, Pavelski's salary has some profit built in. He's an established scoring skating in a top-line role and with the No. 1 power-play unit, and this is also a favorable matchup. After all, the Senators enter with an active 4-14-4 record while allowing 3.43 goals and 11.94 high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes.

Evgenii Dadonov, FLA at DET ($4,600): Through the first month of the season, Dadonov clicked with linemates Jonathan Huberdeau and Aleksander to the tune of 5.57 goals per 60 minutes at five-on-five, and the Russian notched six goals and 14 points through 11 games. A shoulder injury derailed things in late November, and Dadonov is just recently returning to the No. 1 line with Huberdeau and Barkov. Don't be afraid to chase that early-season chemistry at this reasonable salary.

DEFENSE

Nick Leddy, NYI vs. PIT ($5,400): Currently on pace for a career-best offensive showing and boasting a third-ranked 1.81 points per hour among all defensemen with 900 minutes this season, Leddy's another undervalued target. As noted, this isn't a daunting matchup for the Islanders' high-powered attack, and their go-to defenseman is averaging 3:34 of power-play time per contest.

Dustin Byfuglien, WPG vs. BUF ($5,100): After missing 10 games because of a lower-body injury, Byfuglien logged 25:11 of ice time (4:35 with the man advantage) last time out. He proved his health with three shots and two blocked shots, and he also reclaimed his role on the No. 1 power-play unit. He checks out as a strong lean against the Sabres at this price.
