DraftKings NHL: Friday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

James Reimer, FLA vs. CGY ($7,200): After a 5-1 routing of the Lightning on Thursday, the Flames could be in a ripe letdown spot against the Panthers. Reimer's salary opens up considerable cap space to spend up on skaters, and the veteran has settled into the No. 1 job with a .935 save percentage through his past 13 starts, including a .971 mark at home. It's far from a risk-free recommendation, however.

CENTER

Blake Wheeler, WPG at CHI ($7,700): The Blackhawks are continuing to give up oodles of high-danger scoring chances (12.48 per 60 minutes this season), and they're likely to be without Corey Crawford (upper body) for a ninth consecutive game. With Wheeler sporting a seven-game point streak (five goals and six assists) and an elite 3.49 points per 60 minutes for the campaign, he's a foundation piece for lineups.

Derek Stepan, ARI vs. EDM ($4,600): The Oilers have lost seven of eight and allowed 30 goals (3.75 per game) during the skid. While this probably sets up as a slump-busting matchup for Edmonton, it's also a juicy spot for Stepan and the Coyotes. The No. 1 center has collected a respectable three goals, eight points and 28 shots through his past 10 contests and is easy to fit under the cap.

WING

Leon Draisaitl, EDM at ARI ($6,300): The German is in a bit of a scoring funk with just a single goal and assist through his past six contests. However, he's been reunited with Connor McDavid at five-on-five, and the duo has combined for a high-end 4.48 goals per 60 minutes this season. It's also a great matchup for Draisaitl and the Oilers, as the Coyotes have surrendered 3.38 goals and 11.83 high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes this season.

Evgenii Dadonov, FLA vs. CGY ($4,400): A frequent recommendation in this space of late, Dadonov sports a three-game assist streak with seven shots. He's skating with Aleksander Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau again in all situations, and the trio has connected for 4.12 goals per 60 minutes this season. As noted, this is also a potential soft schedule spot with Calgary coming off a statement win over Tampa Bay on Thursday.

Elias Lindholm, CAR vs. WAS ($3,700): It's rare to find a player as productive as Lindholm in his price range, and especially one who's also skating in a top-scoring role. The Swede has marked the scoresheet in consecutive games and was recently promoted to an intriguing top-line gig alongside Jordan Staal and Sebastian Aho.

DEFENSE

John Carlson, WAS at CAR ($6,600): A high-floor, high-ceiling option, Carlson enters with three goals, nine assists, 27 shots and 25 blocked shots through his past 13 games. He's averaging 26:12 of ice time with 3:47 on the power play this season, and even with the second-most minutes played in the league, his 1.77 points per hour rank seventh among all defensemen with at least 750 minutes.

Seth Jones, CBJ vs. VAN ($6,200): In the midst of scorching run, Jones has collected 14 points -- four goals -- through his past 14 games. However, it's his high shot volume (3.36 per contest) that is perhaps most encouraging, especially after firing seven pucks on net in Thursday's loss. He's locked into a top role with an average of 25:30 of ice time (2:59 on the power play) during his recent heater, and the 23-year-old American appears to be blossoming into the star scouts were drooling over entering the 2013 draft.
