First win since August 2020

March 31, 2024
Weidman defeated Bruno Silva via technical unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Atlantic City.
ANALYSIS
It was Weidman's first victory since August 2020 and just his second dating back to July 2017. Obviously the bar is exceedingly low, but Chris looked a bit better here than in recent bouts. He scored a takedown and plenty of ground control time in Round 1, and his chin held up the entire fight, which was probably the biggest concern of all. It was originally scored a knockout win for Weidman, but upon review, it was correctly determined a pair of accidental eye pokes in Round 3 led to the sequence that resulted in the stoppage. Weidman will be 40 years of age in June but has displayed zero desire to step aside, and this result certainly isn't going to change that.

Fighting Silva

Weidman (leg) will fight Bruno Silva at UFC Atlantic City on March 30, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
A fractured leg has kept Weidman out of action since his last fight in August -- a loss against Brad Tavares. Weidman has dropped two fights since his last win in 2020, and he could be at risk to come out a bit rusty versus Silva.
Suffers fractured leg

Weidman fractured his left leg during his fight with Brad Tavares at UFC 292, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Weidman underwent multiple MRIs, which revealed no ligament tears but a fractured leg nonetheless. Weidman's legs were constantly targeted during the Tavares fight, not surprising considering the former's gruesome leg break more than two years ago. For now, Weidman is both without a return date and not expected to fight again in 2023.
Lopsided defeat in comeback bid

August 20, 2023
Weidman lost to Brad Tavares via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC 292 on Saturday in Boston.
ANALYSIS
While Weidman was notably returning from over a two-year layoff due to a broken right leg, it was his lead left leg that was quickly compromised by Tavares, which greatly limited Weidman's movement the entire fight. He was out-landed in the striking department in all three rounds, and finished 0-for-8 on his takedown attempts. If the wrestling game is no longer working for the 39-year-old former champion, even against a solid defensive wrestler in Tavares, it's fair to question what Weidman has left to offer the middleweight division in 2023. He's now 2-7 in his last nine appearances.

Weidman will face off against Brad Tavares in a middleweight matchup at UFC 292 on Aug. 19, Mark La Monica of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
Weidman, who hasn't fought since April 2021 as the result of multiple leg surgeries, will face off against Brad Tavares in his return. The 38-year-old American fighter is 11-6 in his UFC career, and he will look to continue his success in his return this August.
Targeting summer return

Weidman (leg) is hoping to schedule his next UFC fight in June, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Weidman has been sidelined nearly two years after suffering a gruesome leg break at UFC 261 against Uriah Hall, as there were apparently multiple setbacks during his recovery. He admits the leg still isn't quite 100 percent, but he's scheduled for a March grappling match that he believes will be a major stepping stone for his return to MMA action. Weidman is set to turn 39 years old in June but believes he has one more run in him.
