Dropped by JGL Racing
XFINITY Series
September 25, 2017
JGL Racing officially parted ways with Armstrong on Monday, Lee Spencer of Motorsport.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Citing a lack of sponsorship, JGL Racing elected to cut ties with the driver of the No. 28 Toyota car, who won't compete during the upcoming Xfinity Series race at Dover International Speedway during the upcoming weekend. The 26-year-old, who is currently 12th in the Xfinity standings, shouldn't have trouble finding a home with a new team, but with less than two months remaining in the current season, Armstrong may not race again until 2018.

Armstrong makes a return to JGL Racing in 2017. He rejoins the No. 28 team that he spent all of last season with in the Xfinity Series. Armstrong posted a surprising Top-5 finish at Iowa Speedway during the summer, and that was it for his Top-5 and Top-10 efforts. Otherwise, the 25-year-old driver reeled off a steady diet of Top-20 finishes for most of the season, and only posted one DNF. That led to a reasonably good 19.2 average finish. Armstrong will again pair with crew chief Steven Lane and look to raise the bar higher for this small race team. While Top 10’s will still be scarce, the consistency should remain the same and he’ll be running and competitive at the end of most every event.
Armstrong jumps from Richard Petty Motorsports to the JGL team in 2016. The 23-year-old driver had a bit of a down season with the No. 43 team and is looking for a fresh start in the No. 28 Toyota. J.J. Yeley piloted this car last season to a respectable 12th-place finish in the standings and 22 Top-20 finishes. With only three DNF’s the equipment proved rather durable. Steven Lane comes on board to take over the crew chief responsibilities for Armstrong, and the two will need to form a bond quickly. Technical support and engines will continue to come from TRD and Joe Gibbs Racing, making this small two-car operation more competitive than most in this range of the driver field.
As of late January 2013, Armstrong is still a free agent driver. However, there are rumors that he has signed with Turn One Racing in the No. 60 truck. This has yet to be confirmed. Turn One Racing made six starts with multiple drivers in 2012, so this team is just getting off the ground with the young driver Armstrong.
