2024 Fantasy Outlook
Austin looked like an emerging player through four games last season. During that time, the receiver averaged three catches and 33 yards. However, the Steelers offense was a mess. The team relied heavily on their rushing attack. That led to Austin catching six passes for 44 yards over his last 13 games. Although it’s possible that Austin sees an increase in snaps this season, but the receiver may have to hold off rookie Roman Wilson for a prominent role in the offense. Also, it is worrisome that Arthur Smith is the offensive coordinator. The new coach will likely continue to feature the run game. As a result, Austin may not see enough targets to have a breakout season. Read Past Outlooks

Set to compete for WR slotting
As the coming season approaches, Austin is in line to compete with several newcomers for depth chart slotting behind top wideout George Pickens, Chris Ward of Steelersnow.com reports.
ANALYSIS
In the wake of the offseason departures of Diontae Johnson and Allen Robinson, the Steelers added Van Jefferson, Quez Watkins and Scott Miller via free agency and used a third-round draft pick on Roman Wilson. Austin, who was taken in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, is coming off a 2023 regular season in which he caught 17 of his 30 targets for 180 yards and a TD while rushing 11 times for 57 yards and a TD in 17 games. In his third season as a pro, the speedy 5-foot-9, 162-pounder has an opportunity to carve out an increased role in Pittsburgh's offense under new coordinator Arthur Smith.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
WR2 role in play?
Mark Kaboly of The Athletic posits that Austin's consistency during OTAs has given the 2022 fourth-round pick a legitimate shot at the No. 2 wideout spot behind George Pickens.
ANALYSIS
Kaboly believes that it's a four-way battle for the WR2 spot between Austin, Van Jefferson, Quez Watkins and rookie Roman Wilson. It could simply come down to who quarterback Russell Wilson develops the most trust in throughout OTAs and training camp. Although he finished 2023 with 17 catches for 180 yards, Austin had a strong start to the season, accumulating 12 catches for 143 yards and a touchdown over the first four games.

2023
2022
Austin topped 1,000 yards in his final two collegiate seasons at Memphis in 2020 and 2021, but he sustained a foot injury during training camp in August and began the year on injured reserve. The fourth-round pick returned to practice in early October but wasn't activated from IR. He's expected to be healthy heading into 2023 but will have additional competition for targets after the Steelers acquired Allen Robinson during the offseason. Austin was productive in college but could have trouble landing a fantasy-relevant role this year due to the deep receiving corps in Pittsburgh.
