Jayden Daniels

23-Year-Old QuarterbackQB
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Drafted second overall this year, Daniels is the expected Week 1 starter in Washington, even if the team holds a perfunctory competition with free-agent acquisition Marcus Mariota. Daniels is an outstanding athlete, but at 6-4, 210, his slim build raises durability concerns. That’s about the only concern. Armed with a quick release, Daniels is accurate all over the field. Unlike others in his draft, Daniels' 72.2 completion percentage last season (7th in FBS) was not built on accuracy-inflating short passes -- his average target depth (10.2) and YPA (11.7) both led the nation. Daniels has a strong arm, though not an elite one, and is an excellent deep-ball thrower. He operates well in the pocket but can also play on the run, and it’s his dual-threat ability that is intriguing both for Washington and fantasy managers (he ran for more than 2,000 yards and 21 TDs at LSU the last two years). Daniels sometimes holds the ball longer than necessary, resulting in sacks, and his passing stats in college were solid-but-unexceptional prior to his Heisman-winning 2023 campaign. The Commanders have decent veteran targets in RB Austin Ekeler, WR Terry McLaurin, WR Jahan Dotson and TE Zach Ertz, also bringing in rookie TE Ben Sinnott (Round 2) and WR Luke McCaffrey (Round 3). Daniels is lauded for his high football IQ and seems to fit well in offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury’s scheme, but even if the rookie needs time to figure out the passing game his rushing ability should create fantasy value. Picked second overall by Washington
QBWashington Commanders
April 25, 2024
The Commanders selected Daniels in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, second overall.
ANALYSIS
Daniels (6-foot-3, 210 pounds) was a productive three-year starter at Arizona State before transferring to LSU in 2022. Although his first year with the Tigers featured only modest production (2,913 yards and 17 touchdowns passing in 14 games), Daniels' passing numbers went off the chart in his second season with LSU in 2023. The improved numbers brought a Heisman Trophy with them, as Daniels threw for 3,812 yards (11.7 YPA), 40 touchdowns and just four interceptions in 12 games while running for 1,134 yards (8.4 YPC) and 10 touchdowns. Daniels lacks throwing velocity and might be a little slight to get away with running quite as much at the pro level, but his rushing ability is uniquely dangerous on any given play and Daniels showed an effective deep ball throughout his college career. It remains to be seen what kind of offense new coordinator Kliff Kingsbury runs with Washington, but if the team were to emulate the Air Raid offense from Kingsbury's Arizona days then there could be substantial pass attempt and rush attempt volume both for Daniels. Elite rushing production can bring substantial fantasy upside for a quarterback, so Daniels' fantasy value could prove significant even if he has any trouble adjusting to the NFL as a passer.

QBWashington Commanders
May 10, 2024
Daniels, whom the Commanders selected second overall out of LSU in the 2024 NFL Draft, impressed his teammates during the first day of rookie minicamp Friday, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Friday's minicamp session was described as a routine one-hour workout, but Daniels still made a positive impression on draft classmates Luke McCaffrey and Ben Sinnott, who should both be key targets for him this season. Keim notes Daniels appeared at ease throughout the session with his coaches and teammates while uncorking several accurate deep passes down the middle versus air and also making precise throws during 7-on-7 drills.
